A Japanese Katana in Traditional Civilian Mountings with Textured Saya - An Imperial Japanese katana-style sword featuring traditional civilian mountings (koshirae). The single-edged steel blade possesses a moderate curvature and is fitted with a brass habaki (collar). The circular metal tsuba (guard) is decorated in relief with a bird of prey perched among pine branches. The tsuka (hilt) comprises a textured yellowish samegawa (rayskin) base wrapped in a tan-coloured ito (braid). The hilt is further embellished with a copper-alloy fuchi (collar) and kashira (pommel cap), both featuring relief-moulded foliage and dragon motifs. The wooden saya (scabbard) is finished in a brown pebbled texture and terminates in a simple black metal kojiri (end cap). The tang (nakago) has not been inspected for a signature. Total length: approximately 90 - 100 cm.
