GMR, A Pair of Victorian Oil-Finish Genre Prints, Dated 1888 and 1889 - A pair of late Victorian period prints on board, executed as oleographs with a textured finish to simulate the appearance of oil paintings. The first print depicts a young woman in historicist sixteenth-century style costume, featuring a blue and yellow bodice with a ruff collar, shown holding a gold chain. The second print portrays a domestic interior scene where a woman in a nurse or maid's cap tends to a child sleeping in a wooden cradle, set against a background including a leaded window and a wall clock. Both works are monogrammed GMR and dated 1888 and 1889 respectively in the lower right corner. The prints are housed in their original substantial gilt-moulded frames, which feature egg-and-dart and foliate decorative motifs.
