Early 20th Century Wood Cased Novelty Wall Clock with Rocking Ship Automata - A mid-20th century novelty wall clock featuring a mechanical movement and an integrated ship automata. The arched wooden case is finished with a dark mahogany-toned stain. The dial consists of the plain wooden face set with twelve applied circular brass hour markers. It is fitted with two simple brass hands, the hour hand having a spade-shaped tip. A single winding aperture is positioned below the centre. Below the hands is a rectangular glazed aperture housing a three-dimensional diorama. This diorama depicts a three-funnelled ocean liner navigating a rocky coastal scene with a painted background and textured waves, designed to rock in synchronisation with the clock's movement. The reverse of the clock has a secondary wooden box containing the movement and diorama mechanism. A vintage brass bayonet cap light socket is fitted to the top of this box to provide internal illumination for the diorama.
