Eadie, John (Ed.). The National Illustrated Family Bible. Cassell Petter & Galpin, c.1870. - This folio-sized Victorian family Bible is titled The National Illustrated Family Bible on the cover and The Holy Bible on the title page. Published by Cassell Petter & Galpin of London, Paris, and New York, the volume contains the commentaries of Scott and Henry with critical and explanatory notes edited by the Reverend John Eadie, D.D., LL.D. The book is bound in thick, heavily embossed dark leather featuring a prominent central cross motif and intricate Gothic foliate patterns. The binding is fitted with ornate brass corner protectors and brass clasps. The text block features all edges gilt. Internally, the work includes a decorative chromolithographed title page and numerous illustrations throughout the text.
