19th Century Pine Six Board Blanket Chest - A Victorian pine blanket chest of six-board construction, likely used as a sea chest or storage trunk. The front panel is marked with the painted black block initials E.A.J. The lid is attached via two large internal iron strap hinges and opens to reveal a fitted interior. A side till or ditty box is situated at one end, featuring an upper open compartment above two small drawers. These internal drawers are fitted with brass ring-pull handles. The interior floor and sides are lined with sheets of the Daily Express newspaper, with one visible date of Friday 17 November 1972. The exterior of the lid is covered with the heavily frayed and shredded remnants of two layers of fabric: a yellow woollen blanket over a pink and white floral pattern textile, both secured by a series of metal tacks around the perimeter. The chest is constructed from single-plank pine boards with a simple moulded base.
