Victorian-Style Pierced Steel and Ribbed Iron Practice Sabre - A late Victorian to Edwardian period practice sabre, featuring a pierced steel bowl guard based on the British Pattern 1897 infantry officer's sword. The guard incorporates decorative openwork scrollwork with a central floral motif within a circular frame. The grip is constructed from a single piece of ribbed metal, likely cast iron or aluminium, which is a design characteristic of gymnastic or fencing training weapons of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The steel blade is straight and single-edged, terminating in a squared or blunt tip intended for training use. While marks are present on the ricasso near the hilt, they are not legible due to significant oxidation and deep pitting, and no manufacturer names, proof marks, or unit inscriptions can be distinguished on the blade or hilt.
