Bidspirit auction | Mid-Century Modern Fat Lava Earthenware
Mid-Century Modern Fat Lava Earthenware Twin-Handled Floor Vase - This mid-century modern twin-handled floor vase is constructed from earthenware and exhibits a striking fat lava aesthetic. The substantial amphora-inspired form features a tiered, ringed neck and two elongated vertical handles with scrolled terminals. The decorative scheme employs a multi-tonal drip glaze, with a matte black ground to a vibrant, glossy orange-red band. Across the shoulder, a heavily textured volcanic-style band is finished in mottled grey and cream. The orange glaze displays characteristic drip edges where it overlaps the black lower section. The piece has been adapted for use as a lamp base, featuring a circular hole drilled near the foot for an electrical cord and an internal metal wire armature visible through the hollow underside. No maker marks, signatures, or factory backstamps are visible on the piece.
