Tang Dynasty, Ca. AD 618 - 907.A Chinese terracotta female musician. The lady is depicted with makeup, wearing a red belted dress, with long flowing sleeves covered with Persian influenced floral medallions, the outfit finished by a pair of pointed black shoes. Her hair is arranged into the Wo Duo Ji style knot, where the hair is left right above the shoulders finished with a loosely hanging top bun. She is shown to be playing the Chinese lute, also known as Pipa in Chinese. The instrument is decorated and painted with green pigments. This piece has been precisely dated using a Thermo Luminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla. The report will accompany the lot.Size: 500mm x 170mm; Weight: 3.8kgProvenance: UK private collection; formerly acquired in the early 1990s in Hong Kong. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
