GANDHARA GRAVE CULTURE TERRACOTTA CREMATION URN
Swat Valley, Ca. 1200 BC.A Gandhara Grave Culture jar featuring a large rounded body, raising from a short, flat foot. The vessel narrows at the neck and flares out and upwards to form a large, funnel-shaped mouth. A stylised face, possibly an abstract representation of the deceased, would have been depicted at the front of the piece, now unfurtunately missing. For a similar example, see The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, accession number: AC1994.234.8a-b; and Virginia Museum of Fine Art, accession number: 87.453a-b.
