Ca. 900 - 700 BC A rare bronze axe featuring a beautifully formed crescentic blade, a central hole for the insertion of a wooden handle, and three hatched ribs with a rope-like form that helps to strengthen the hammerhead on the reverse. The Koban were a tribal culture in the Central Caucasus during the transitional period from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age, who produced high levels of applied art. Size: L:190mm / W:67mm ; 485g Provenance: Property of a European collector, professional Art dealer; formerly in private collection of Mr. C. Brownell, London, 2000s-2010s; previously in private collection of Mr. S. Bauwens, Brussels, 1980s-1990s.
