Middle kingdom, 2055 - 1790 BC.Collection of three Egyptian steatite scarabs. The first scarab on the left with realistic manners and beneath the domed insect is a hieroglyphic symbol and four raised cobras, on top of the symbol NEB. A suspension hole is drilled lengthwise through the body, for mounting on a necklace or a swivel ring.The second scarab has naturalistic features. Beneath the insect is a carved a stylised hieroglyphic inscription. There is a suspension hole drilled lengthwise through the body, for mounting on a necklace or swivel ring. The third scarab has an ovoid form with realistic features. Beneath the domed insect is a hieroglyphic inscription. A suspension hole is drilled lengthwise through the body, for mounting on a necklace or a swivel ring.Size: 15-17mm x 11-13mm; Weight: 5gProvenance: Property of a London gallery; previously in a collection of a North London gentleman; formerly in a collection of Mrs B.
