EGYPTIAN PAINTED MASK - Late Period, Ca. 664 - 332 BC. An intricately carved cedar wood sarcophagus mask coated in gesso and paint. The mask features idealised facial characteristics, including a large nose, pursed lips, and painted wide almond-shaped eyes. It is adorned with a striped headdress, and the facial expression conveys a sense of profound serenity. Reviewed by Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition.
