ILLYRIAN HELMET WITH VOTIVE GOLD MASK AND GOLD INLAYS - Ca. 700 - 600 BC. A war helmet made of hammered bronze sheet, with a rectilinear opening for the face and long, pointed cheek pieces. This example exhibits a rich russet-green patina and represents a somewhat more impressive example of Type II, variant A, with a more pronounced dome-like form. Size: 290mm x 230mm; Weight: 1.71kg, weight of gold is over 30 grams. Provenance: Private London collection; Ex. Peter Ing Till collection, Vienna, Austria; formerly with Austrian collector since the 1970s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
