GREEK BRONZE TREFOIL PECTORAL - Ca. 500 - 400 BC. A Greek armour comprising a pectoral and the straps. The pectoral, or panoply, is composed of a central three-lobed guard formed by three raised hemispheres. This design held both symbolic and functional significance, as metal with this particular shape was more durable. The straps comprises two main rectangular-shaped elements, featuring a movable connection at the centre to allow for flexibility. The finials are adorned with the palmette motif, characteristic of the Etruscan period. Size: 60-270mm x 190-270mm; Weight: 1.1kg. Provenance: Private London collection, acquired on the Austrian art market in the 1980s.
