EGYPTIAN POLYCHROME ALABASTER JAR
New Kingdom, Ca. 1279 - 1152 BC. An extraordinary conical shaped alabaster vessel with a hemispherical bottom and high vertical walls. The vessel is crafted from cream-coloured alabaster with pale red veining. Its surface features a decoration that consists of a motif first engraved and then painted in green and yellow. This decoration depicts a natural scene from the Nile Valley, showcasing plants such as papyrus and rushes, all encompassed by geometric motifs. The portion just below the rim is adorned with geometric designs in yellow and green.
