MIDDLE ELAMITE BITUMEN CYLINDER SEAL - ORIGINAL LAMBERT REPORT
Ca. 1200 - 900 BC. A Middle Elamite bitumen cylinder seal. The two ends have bands of design, the middle is blank. The one shows a frieze of two animals. The first is a recumbent lion and the second is a recumbent bull. The other end shows two recumbent facing quadrupeds with lion bodies and birds heads. A rhomb serves as terminal of the seal. Accompanied by a signed scholarly note by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert. Size: 43mm x 12mm; Weight: 8g. Provenance: Property of a London gallery; formerly with a Mayfair Art dealer S.A.; Ex. 1990s London collections, studied and catalogued by professor Lambert in the early 90s (with original note, signed by him). Previously in an old British collection formed since the 1960s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
