EGYPTIAN FAIENCE PATAIKOS AMULET - New Kingdom, Ca. 1550 - 1069 BC. An intriguing depiction of the god Pataikos, the bow-legged dwarf deity. The amulet is mould made from faience and covered in a lustrous blue-green glaze. He stands atop a square base, he has thick arms and a portly abdomen. On the back of the amulet is a small suspension loop. Pataikos is a protective deity in Ancient Egyptian mythology, Pataikos is often depicted as a dwarf with a large head and a prominent belly. He is frequently shown holding knives to ward off evil forces. Pataikos was commonly worn as an amulet by both the living and the dead for protection against harm and malevolent spirits.
