MAEOTIAN PSEUDO ILLYRIAN BRONZE HELMET - Ca. 200 BC.A bronze helmet with a domed crown and a central channel created by two parallel raised ridges running longitudinally across its surface. Approximately halfway towards one end, these ridges extend into a Y-shape and then continue to encircle the perimeter parallel to the rim. At the other end of the channel, the ridges meet the band, culminating there. The edges of the ridges are sharp and well-defined. The rim is encircled by a subtle, continuous reinforcement band extending uniformly around the circumference. Based on its overall form and structural characteristics, the helmet closely aligns with Illyrian sub-variants, representing a simpler, utilitarian style.Size: 210mm x 170mm; Weight: 435gProvenance: Property of a German collector; Ex.
