ROMAN INTAGLIO WITH SEATED GOD AND INSCRIPTION IN A GOLD SWIVEL RING - Ca. AD 200.An oval-shaped intaglio with a flat underside and a slightly convex base engraved with a depiction of a god seated on a throne featuring horizontal slats for support. The god is shown facing his right, with his right hand outstretched and his left hand raised to his head. He is depicted in a state of nudity. The throne is placed above the inscription ”CSTA.” This intaglio is set within a rotating element of a gold swivel ring, which consists of a gold frame encircling the intaglio, connected to a round-section tapering D-shaped hoop.Size: D:18.54mm / US: 8 1/2 / UK: Q 1/2; Weight: 9gProvenance: Property of a London gallery; previously acquired at the art market in Vienna; formerly in an Austrian collection formed prior to 2000.
