ROMAN RED CARNELIAN INTAGLIO DEPICTING GODDESS IN GOLD RING - Ca. AD 300 - 400. An oval-shaped carnelian intaglio engraved with a standing goddess. The figure is depicted slightly turned, wearing a long, draped garment that falls in vertical folds. The right hand holds a spear, while the other extends downward, holding an attribute. The facial features are rendered in a simplified manner, with a faintly outlined head. The intaglio is set in a plain gold frame within a ring. The shoulders are decorated with symmetrical volute-like scrolls terminating in rounded finials and further embellished with fine gold granules.
