ROMAN GOLD RING WITH INTAGLIO DEPICTING ANTONIA - Ca. AD 50 - 100. An oval-shaped intaglio with a portrait of Antonia. The engraved gem depicts a left-facing profile. The hair is intricately arranged, featuring fine parallel engravings to depict a central parting and hair swept back into a braided or coiled bun at the rear, with strands subtly incised to suggest texture. The forehead is slightly rounded, transitioning into a straight, prominent nose. The eye is almond-shaped, with a faintly arched brow above and a defined upper eyelid. The lips are thin and closed, with a small chin that appears rounded. The neck is slender and leads into the faintly engraved outline of drapery, suggesting a garment. The intaglio is set in a gold ring with a flat, oval bezel. The bezel has a thin raised edge surrounding the intaglio, ensuring a secure fit. The shank is plain and circular, gently tapering at the shoulders to meet the bezel.
