ROMAN GOLD RING WITH RED GARNET INTAGLIO DEPICTING GRYLLOS - Ca. AD 1 - 200.A carnelian intaglio depicting a gryllos motif, featuring two conjoined heads facing opposite directions. The intaglio is oval in shape, slightly convex and polished to a glossy surface. One head appears youthful and with a headdress or cap, while the other is elderly, characterized by a prominent beard and furrowed facial features. Both heads are oriented in a way that emphasizes their contrasting characteristics. The intaglio is mounted in a gold ring. The bezel is framed by a raised border of small, evenly spaced granulated spheres forming a decorative halo around the gemstone.
