GREEK CARNELIAN INTAGLIO DEPICTING PARTRIDGE IN GOLD RING - Ca. 400 - 200 BC. A carnelian intaglio depicting a partridge. The bird stands in profile with its head slightly lowered. The body is defined by a series of small, circular depressions suggesting plumage, with the wings extending downward and terminating in fine, parallel lines. One foot is planted on the ground, while the other rests upon a small, rounded object. The intaglio is set in a gold swivel ring consisting of a rotating rounded frame and a hoop composed of a round-section curved gold wire, forming an elongated shape with a slight undulation near the attachment points.Size: D:17.32mm / US: 7 / UK: N 1/2; Weight: 8.63gProvenance: Private UK collection; previously acquired on the UK art market in the 1990s.
