AN INSCRIBED FATIMID SIGNET RING
Ca. 12th - 13th century AD. A distinguished gold signet ring of solid cast form features an oval bezel finely engraved with an elegant Arabic inscription in angular Kufic script, framed by a delicate scrolling motif. The inscription, arranged in two horizontal bands, is deeply incised, allowing for an impression when used as a seal. The broad shoulders taper seamlessly into a smooth, gently worn band, its surface bearing traces of age and wear consistent with its historical use. The warm golden patina enhances the depth of the inscription, lending an air of refined sophistication. Such rings were often worn by high-ranking officials, merchants, or scholars, serving both as a personal emblem and a mark of authority. A superb example of Fatimid craftsmanship, embodying the dynasty’s artistic and epigraphic traditions.Size: D:17.12mm / US: 6 3/4 / UK: N; Weight: 2.95gProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional.
