A MUGHAL MULTI GEM AND DIAMOND-SET AND ENAMELLED GOLD RING
India, Ca. 17th-18th century AD . A gold ring of square form. The thick gold bezel is set with an array of nine cabochon-cut gemstones, including emerald, sapphire, ruby, pearl, coral, and cat’s eye, centering on a large pink-hued spinel. The surface is finely chased with delicate floral motifs. The tapering shank, further adorned with intricate floral enameling in white and gold, inset with additional cabochons, the interior left unadorned, bearing signs of age and wear. The vibrant arrangement of gems follows the traditional Hindu Navaratna (nine-gem) composition, which is believed to provide celestial protection and auspiciousness. Exhibiting exceptional craftsmanship, this ring embodies the opulent Mughal aesthetic, where the fusion of jewel setting and enamel work reached its peak.Size: D:18.54mm / US: 8 1/2 / UK: Q 1/2; Weight: 15gProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional.
