Nishapur, or Central Asia, Ca. 11th - 12th century AD . A ceramic bowl with an abstract bird motif at the centre of the interior, surrounded by a dynamic band of vegetal scrolls and stylised Kufic script. The palette of black and cream on a dark slip background reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of early Islamic pottery from the region. Heavily repaired.Size: 235mm x 75mm; Weight: 570gProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional.
