EGYPTIAN INSCRIBED FABRIC - Ca. 664 - 30 BC. An Egyptian fragment of linen textile displayed in a modern black frame. The woven panel is irregularly shaped and made of light brown fabric, with traces of red pigment concentrated on the right side. This pigment may have originated from a decorative or ritual application. The fiber appears to be flax, which is consistent with Egyptian textile production. The presence of red pigment may suggest that the textile was used in a funerary context, possibly as part of wrappings or on a cartonnage surface.Size: 325mm x 240mm; Weight: 310gProvenance: Private UK collection; From an old British collection formed in the 1990s.
