PHOENICIAN TERRACOTTA MODEL OF A SMALL BOAT WITH CREW - Ca. 6th - 4th century BC A sculpture representing a typical Phoenician vessel in terracotta, which denotes the importance of navigation for this civilization. In fact, the study of the Phoenicians focuses on their relevance as the first seafaring and navigating people, leading to cities associated with coastal regions, with good ports and defensive systems. As a result of this navigational character, they established a well-organised trade route from Egypt to Gibraltar and from there to the Atlantic. This sculpture is part of a set of Phoenician terracottas discovered under the sea in the 1950s. They likely came from Phoenician temples representing the Phoenicians and their main activities in the form of votive sculptures. Size: L. 32 cm.
