PHOENICIAN TERRACOTTA MODEL OF A MEDIUM-SIZED BOAT WITH POSSIBLE CREW - TL TESTED - Ca. 6th - 5th century BC A terracotta sculpture representing a typical Phoenician boat, underscoring the importance of seafaring for this civilisation. The Phoenicians are recognised as the earliest major maritime people, establishing coastal cities with efficient harbours and defensive systems. Their nautical expertise supported the creation of a well-organised trade network extending from Egypt to Gibraltar and into the Atlantic. This sculpture is part of a group of Phoenician terracottas recovered from an underwater site in the 1950s, likely originating from temple contexts and intended as votive representations of Phoenicians and their primary activities.
