ROMANO-EGYPTIAN RED STONE AMPHORISKOS - Ca. 300 - 100 BC. A red jasper amphoriskos with a slender neck, rounded body, and two delicate handles that curve from the rim to the shoulder. The vessel has a highly polished surface and carefully balanced proportions reveal the Egyptians’ mastery in stonework and their taste for luxury. Restored. Reviewed by Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition.
