APULIAN BELL KRATER WITH DIONYSIAC SCENE ATTRIBUTED TO THE BLACK THYRSUS PAINTER - Ca. 360 - 350 BC. A red-figure bell-krater attributed to the Black Thyrsus Painter, constructed with a broad bell-shaped body, flaring rim, and disc foot, fitted with two horizontal handles placed just below the rim. The exterior of the rim is decorated with a laurel wreath, while the lower body is bordered with a continuous meander pattern. Each handle is encircled by an ovolo pattern and centred by large palmettes set within volute tendrils. On side A, a Dionysiac thiasos is shown in lively movement. At the centre, a maenad in added white and yellow is depicted dancing and playing the tympanum. She is flanked by two satyrs and maenads in dynamic poses.
