APULIAN BELL KRATER - Ca. 400 - 300 BC. A red-figure krater with a flaring lip, concave neck, and deep bell-shaped body tapering into a narrow footed base. The handles rise from the shoulder and curl outward. The area beneath the rim is decorated with a continuous band of laurel leaves, while the lower register features a wave pattern. Large palmettes are painted beneath the handles, framed by vertical scrolling tendrils. On side A, a seated female figure is depicted on a high stool, wearing a finely pleated chiton, her hair arranged in a bun. She extends her left arm towards a standing warrior facing her, who holds a circular shield. His right arm is raised in a gesture of salutation or conversation. On side B, two draped youths stand in profile, engaged in conversation. Restored.
