ROMAN MARBLE HEAD OF SALONIA MATIDIA - Ca. AD 68 - 112. A marble head of Salonia Matidia, niece of Emperor Trajan and mother-in-law of Emperor Hadrian, depicted with finely carved features and idealised youthful traits. Her wide, almond-shaped eyes and small, softly modelled lips are framed by delicately incised hair, crowned with an elaborate coiffure of thick radiating waves drawn back into a complex braided chignon at the nape.For similar see: S.
