NEOCLASSICAL BUST OF ROMAN EMPEROR - Ca. AD 1780 - 1850. A marble bust of a Roman emperor, wearing a tunic and cuirass with lappets covering the shoulder. Draped over the cuirass is a paludamentum, the military cloak of high-ranking officials, fastened at the right shoulder with a large circular fibula. The paludamentum is rendered with deeply carved folds, falling diagonally across the chest, with the hem finished in a fringed border. The bust terminates in an integral, turned socle with moulded rings at the neck and base.
