Bidspirit auction | CHINESE ZISHA TEAPOT

CHINESE ZISHA TEAPOT - Ca. AD 1900 - 2000. A zisha (purple clay) teapot. The globular body is finely incised with delicate floral blossom branches extending around the surface. The teapot features a curved spout, loop handle, and domed cover with a small knop. A raised band encircles the midsection of the body, adding definition to the form. The clay surface is matte and finely textured, displaying the characteristic warm reddish-brown tone of zisha stoneware. This is a beautiful example of purple clay teapots, known for their ability to enhance the flavour of brewed tea through repeated use, as the unglazed body absorbs the essence of the tea.Signed Meishi on the base. Size: 135mm x 115mm; Weight: 245g. Provenance: Private French Collection.
