Bidspirit auction | CHINESE WOODEN SCEPTRE IN LOTUS

CHINESE WOODEN SCEPTRE IN LOTUS FORM - Republican Period, Ca. AD 1912 - 1949. A wooden sceptre finely carved from a single piece of hardwood takes the naturalistic form of a curling lotus stem terminating in a large seedpod. The surface is delicately textured to resemble the nodules and natural irregularities of a dried lotus, with each seed cavity deeply hollowed. The handle is twisted and gnarled like a real stem, and the base is fitted with a tassel also from the period. Size: 325mm x 70mm; Weight: 95g. Provenance: Private French Collection.
