MUGHAL JADE BOX WITH RUBIES AND EMERALD - Ca. AD 1800 - 1900. A carved jade octagonal box inlaid with a symmetrical floral design using rubies and emeralds, set in fine gilded wire outlining. The top is decorated with a central lotus-like blossom surrounded by radiating floral sprays, while the sides are adorned with stylised flowering stems. This inlay technique is known as parchin kari, famously used in the decoration of the Taj Mahal and is associated with imperial commissions and luxurious personal objects.
