KASHMIR STYLE STANDING VAJRAPANI - Ca. AD 1800 - 1900. A standing Vajrapani cast in solid bronze, upon a lotus pedestal, his right hand raised and holding a vajra, symbolising the power of compassion. His left hand rests gracefully at his hip. The tall aureole, elegantly flared and bordered with incised flame motifs, surrounds the slender form with a sense of spiritual energy and protection. The stylised treatment of the face, tight curls, and proportions are closely aligned with Kashmiri sculptural traditions of the early medieval period, particularly influenced by Gupta and post-Gupta classicism.
