GROUP OF TIBETAN THOGCHAGS - Ca. AD 1800 - 1900 or earlier. An assemblage of eight cast bronze thogchags including a large openwork plaque depicting sinuous entwined dragons or serpents in high relief, a stylised Garuda-like winged deity figure, and a variety of smaller ritual and utilitarian fittings - among them a Vajra-buckle mount, pierced round and square tokens, and miniature bells and charms. These pieces, made from 'sky-iron' metals according to Tibetan belief, were worn or used as protective talismans or mounted on harnesses, garments, or altar objects.
