MEROVINGIAN SILVER GARNET INLAID BELT BUCKLE - Ca. AD 400 - 600. Ca. AD 400 - 600. A rectangular belt buckle composed of a gilded frame, an intricately decorated plaque, and a hinged fastening element. The plaque is inlaid with geometric cells filled with red garnet inlays arranged in a symmetrical pattern of alternating squares and triangles. Four rounded rivets secure the corners of the plaque. The frame is similarly inlaid with garnet, featuring a row of triangular and square cells along the outer edge and circular inlays at the centre. The pin, attached to a central hinge, is embellished with a pair of raised garnet cabochons at its terminal.
