GREEK CHALCIDIAN BRONZE HELMET WITH CHEECKS - Ca. 500 - 400 BC. A Chalcidian bronze helmet, dating to the late 5th or early 4th century BC, finely crafted from a single sheet and distinguished by its segmented domed crown articulated by raised ribs. The form retains the characteristic open-faced design of the Chalcidian type, with a gently flaring lower rim and hinged cheek-pieces, each embossed with central ridges and a perforated border for interior lining. The brow is sharply defined by a central ridge forming a shallow V-shape above the forehead. A decorative frieze of stamped triangles encircles the rim, a detail associated with Greek workshops in Southern Italy. The surface bears a well-preserved green patina with areas of cuprite, evidencing extended burial.
