GREEK BRONZE PILOS HELMET WITH SILVER HORNS - Ca. 400 - 200 BC. A rare bronze helmet of Pilos type with silver horns. It is of classical domed form with a gently flaring rim, the surface displaying a mottled cuprite patina with areas of red and green. Accompanied by two separately hammered, detachable silver horns, curved and tapering, each inserted into vertical sockets at the temples. The helmet is hammered from a single sheet and pierced along the lower edge for attachment. The wings are an addition to the helmet, from the same period and type.
