CHINESE STONE TORSO OF BODHISATTVA - Northern Wei Dynasty, Ca. AD 386-534. A torso of bodhisattva in limestone, the figure shown standing with the weight evenly distributed, dressed in long, flowing robes falling in deep, rhythmic folds that gather at the feet. The chest is adorned with a knotted necklace, the ends draped in symmetrical loops. The shoulders and upper arms are covered with layered robes, the carving carefully delineating the soft, cascading drapery lines typical of the Northern Wei style.Size: 700mm x 330mm; Weight: Over 25kgProvenance: UK private collection; formerly acquired in the early 1990s in Hong Kong.
