GANDHARAN STONE RELIEF OF STANDING BUDDHA - Ca. AD 300 - 400. A finely modelled standing figure of the Buddha standing in gentle contrapposto upon a rectangular base. The sanghati robe falls in deeply carved folds across the shoulder and torso. His serene face is framed by a large halo, with downcast eyes beneath arched brows, a straight nose, and bow-shaped lips set in a subtle smile. The hair is arranged in tight curls tied into an ushnisha. The base is carved in relief with a small seated Buddha figure flanked by stylised trees. Size: 500mm x 180mm; Weight: 8.5kg Provenance: From a professional UK collection of Asian and Himalayan art; previously with a London gallery, ex.
