GANDHARAN RELIEF PANEL OF BUDDHA - Kushan Period, Ca. AD 200 - 300. A finely carved terracotta relief depicting Buddha, backed with a halo, adorned with jewellery, and seated in a relaxed posture. Two attendants kneel at either side, one in adoration, the other presenting an offering. The scene is framed by drapery, suggesting a courtly setting. The work illustrates the princely life of Siddhartha prior to his renunciation.
