INDIAN BRONZE FIGURE OF DANCING SHIVA - Ca. 19th century AD. A cast bronze depicting Shiva as Nataraja, the Lord of Dance, encircled by a flaming aureole. The deity balances gracefully on one leg upon the prostrate Apasmara, symbolising ignorance, while the other leg is raised in a dynamic pose. Shiva’s four arms display the classic attributes: the upper right holding the damaru (drum of creation), the upper left bearing agni (flame of destruction), the lower right in abhaya mudra (gesture of protection), and the lower left extended across the body. The figure is adorned with ornate jewellery, a tall jatamukuta, and flowing locks fanning out with vigour, embodying cosmic energy.Size: 170mm x 150mm; Weight: 545gProvenance: Private UK Collection
