TIBETAN GILT-BRONZE TARA - Ca. 19th - 20th century AD. A gilded bronze figure of Tara, the revered female Bodhisattva of compassion, seated atop a double-lotus pedestal. The right hand is in varada mudra, while the left hand is raised, a blooming lotus at her left shoulder. A second lotus blooms at her right shoulder. She is adorned with beaded jewellery and an elaborate crown. Her serene face is gilded with a soft expression and downcast eyes.Size: 210mm x 160mm; Weight: 1.2kgProvenance: Private UK collection, H.G.; previously with a London gallery; formerly acquired in 1999 from a London antiquities dealer.
