INDIAN BRONZE DURGA MAHISHASURAMARDINI - Ca. 18th - 19th century AD. A bronze figure of the goddess Durga in her fierce aspect as Mahishasuramardini, depicted standing in a dynamic pose with her right leg trampling the buffalo demon Mahisha, who emerges from the buffalo’s severed body. The goddess is shown with multiple arms, each holding her divine weapons, including the trident, discus, conch, and sword, bestowed upon her by the gods. She wears a tall conical crown, elaborate ornaments, and a sacred thread across her torso.
