MAYA SEATED DIGNITARY - Ca. AD 600 - 900. A buff-brown pottery figure of a seated dignitary, hollow-moulded and shown with legs folded beneath and hands resting on the knees. The head is topped with a tall headdress composed of criss-crossed folds, while the ears are adorned with large disc-shaped spools. Below a heavy brow, the eyes are slightly closed, set above a broad nose and framed by a moustache and a pointed goatee. The lips are slightly parted, exposing the upper row of teeth. A large pendant in the form of a youthful head hangs from a cord around the neck, and pierced lug suspension loops are positioned on both shoulders.
