FINE ZANDE / MANGBETU WOODEN HAIRPIN - Ca. 19th - 20th century AD. A Zande / Mangbetu hairpin carved in dark wood, the elongated pin is surmounted by a stylised anthropomorphic figure. The figure displays the elegant, elongated proportions characteristic of Zande and Mangbetu sculptural aesthetics, often associated with courtly adornment and prestige.
